The Age of Heroes
From Lyks Character Sheet Biography
Lyks hails from the Dim Forest, the offspring of an unforgivable act of violence on an elf maiden by an evil human man. Her pregnancy lay like a hidden secret amongst her fellow villagers for fear of execution. She had him and tried to give him a better home, for he would never be accepted there. She had nymph friends who were willing to help but alas, they were watched by evil eyes. A group of ogres attacked and killed them, leaving the infant Lyks to lay and die like a cruel joke.
A passing human ranger, Branis Berwood, had noticed the skirmish but could not intervene as he was outnumbered and his many travels had taken their toll on his old body. He could only watch but he took the child once the ogres left. He raised him. He raised Lyks as an apprentice, not as a son. He watched over him and was his guardian, teaching him to be a good man. He taught him the ways of the forest and though initially surprised by Lyks’ greater, more spiritual connection with nature, he was pleased when he decided to study as a druid as well. Lyks was sent on many tasks as a young child, ever tested by this man who took pity on him. After a time, he passed away, leaving Lyks alone to fight the evils that lay amongst the lands. Returning to his childhood home to put his guardian’s estate in order, Lyks was surprised to find a letter addressed to him from the free city of Greyhawk. In it, a mage named Modius described seeing Lyks in an assemblage with himself and others in a vision and that fate had larger plans for him. Lyks, for perhaps the last time, took leave of the safety and familiarity of the only place he had ever really called home and set off for the grand city of Greyhawk and whatever adventure lay before him.
